  • I've heard you need $25,000 to "Day Trade". Can you confirm this?

    There are certain "day" trading rules put in place by regulators aimed at discouraging or preventing retail investors from risking money they cannot afford to lose. Brokers will require a minimum account size of $25k be maintained if you will be opening and closing a certain threshold number of trades within a single trading day session over the course of a rolling period of days. Details should be confirmed with each brokerage. Futures do not have these same restrictions and accounts as low as a few thousand dollars can be sufficient to begin your journey. This is discussed in more detail in our Futures Foundations course.

  • Is pattern recognition the same thing as technical analysis?

    The technical analysis of price action charts is essentially a study of patterns, however there is a great deal of nuance on the topic and one of the components that separate the small percentage of successful day traders is their ability to either #1 access information few people have, or #2 see the same information commonly available to all, but through a unique lens to gain insight that offers performance edge. We are of the conviction that life itself is pattern, down to the microscopic level, and that the financial markets are the purest form of collective psychological patterns of fear and greed we can study. There is an incredible amount of wiggle room available for interpretation of these patterns to the extent of taking trade actions. There is also limitless variation of tools that can be applied to filter price action to reveal patterns.
